Why this course exists

To close the gap between generic supplier management and the need to treat the supply chain as a structured continuity capability, aligned with business priorities, recovery requirements, critical dependencies and operational resilience.

In many organisations, third-party dependency is increasing, but supply chain continuity remains fragmented across procurement, operations, risk, compliance, technology and suppliers, without a coherent method to identify criticalities, translate continuity needs into concrete requirements, assess weaknesses, reduce concentration and structure defensible continuity mechanisms.

The Business Continuity Supply Chain Continuity Lead Manager course exists to close this gap, focusing on supply chain continuity as a natural extension of the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS): external dependency analysis, prioritisation based on the Business Impact Analysis (BIA), identification of priority suppliers, weakness analysis, definition of continuity options and mechanisms, contractual obligations, monitoring and integration with the organisation’s overall continuity capability.

What this course enables you to do

Identify

Identify priority suppliers, critical external resources, relevant dependencies and interdependencies, including upstream and downstream exposure.

Analyse

Analyse criticality, concentration, weaknesses, constraints and continuity gaps associated with the supply chain.

Translate

Translate BIA results and business continuity requirements into requirements applicable to third parties, contracts, solutions and continuity mechanisms.

Structure

Structure supply chain continuity options and mechanisms, balancing exposure, feasibility, cost, control and real capability.

Monitor

Define approaches for monitoring, maturity and continuity evidence for relevant suppliers and services.

Integrate

Integrate supply chain continuity into the BCMS, articulating interfaces with strategy and planning, ICT readiness, recovery and crisis, without absorbing those domains.

Frameworks, standards and best practices addressed throughout the course

ISO/TS 22318:2021 — Supply Chain Continuity Management
ISO 22301 — interface with the BCMS
ISO 22313 — guidance on the use of ISO 22301

Value for the organisation

  • Strengthens the ability to identify and address critical external dependencies that, if disrupted, may compromise relevant products, services, operations and commitments.
  • Reduces fragility associated with concentration, single-source, sole-source and poorly visible supply chain dependencies.
  • Creates a common language and a defensible method to transform continuity priorities into concrete requirements applicable to the supply chain.
  • Improves articulation between business, operations, procurement, third parties, technology, continuity and governance.
  • Establishes a solid basis for evidence, monitoring, review and continuous improvement of supply chain continuity in auditable, regulated or contractually demanding contexts.

Introduction

The Business Continuity Supply Chain Continuity Lead Manager course is a Behaviour specialisation in supply chain continuity, aligned with ISO/TS 22318:2021 and with recognised international practices.

The course enables professionals to understand supply chain continuity as an integral part of business continuity, clearly distinguishing this domain from generic procurement, broad contract management or broad vendor management. The focus is on the continuity of external and third-party dependencies relevant to the delivery of products and services, on the analysis of criticality and exposure, and on the definition of real continuity requirements, options and mechanisms.

As participants progress through the course topics, the integration between BIA, business priorities, external dependencies, priority suppliers, continuity solutions, contracts, monitoring and governance is reinforced. The course uses a transversal case study and related sub-scenarios, used as the basis for practical activities and contextualised questions delivered exclusively online.

This course prepares participants for the Certified Business Continuity Supply Chain Continuity Lead Manager personal certification.
