Keep your professional certification up to date
Continue your professional journey. To request the start of the process, complete the online recertification application form, which sets out the applicable terms and fees.
Levels with no professional experience required
Recertification is linked to the publication of a new edition of the body of knowledge, such as a new edition of the standard underpinning the certification.
Levels requiring professional experience
Maintenance and recertification follow the validity period and requirements of the level awarded. Check the date shown on your diploma and start the process at least 6 months in advance.
What is considered during the process:
- Relevant professional experience, supported by evidence and related to the credential’s domains and activities.
- Application and supporting documentation, including up-to-date details and the signed Code of Ethics.
The first step is the online form. Following an eligibility review, the request proceeds to invoicing. The formal process begins once payment has been confirmed, with instructions on how to submit the relevant documentation.
Updating to a new edition
When a new edition of the standard or framework is published, updating allows the certification to be aligned with the new body of knowledge. The pathway and deadlines are defined for each credential.
- Applicable process: Behaviour update training and a new exam, in accordance with the scheme and edition concerned.
- Training credential for the new edition after completing the relevant process described above. Professional experience does not automatically lead to a change of edition.
Showcase your professional certification
Once you have successfully completed the process, you will receive the Behaviour Digital Certification Diploma and Digital Certification Badge. Use them to enhance your professional profile.

FAQs — Professional certification
Find answers about booking your exam, obtaining certification and continuing your professional journey.
How do I book the professional certification exam after training?
Send your request to exams@behaviour-group.com, stating your full name, course, training dates and four possible dates, with your availability in Lisbon time. Your booking is complete once you receive confirmation and the session instructions.
What is the deadline for taking the exam?
The timeframe is specified in the course terms and the communications you have received. Also check the date from which it is calculated: this is not necessarily the last day of training. Request your booking in advance so that you can take the exam within the specified period.
Can I take the exam in Portuguese?
Behaviour offers exams in Portuguese and English. The available languages depend on the professional certification exam. Check the information on the course page and in the instructions you have received.
What do I need to prepare for an online exam?
Read the session instructions regarding your computer, internet connection, camera, microphone and identification. Prepare a space free from interruptions and check the required applications and permitted reference materials in advance.
Can I resit the exam if I do not pass?
Yes, under the terms applicable to the exam. Where your enrolment includes a second attempt — second-shot, you can use it within the specified timeframe. Check the terms you have received to confirm what is included and the fees for further attempts.
When will I receive my exam result?
The timeframe and method of communication depend on the exam. Read the session instructions and keep the email address associated with your application up to date.
I have passed the exam. How do I apply for professional certification?
Contact certification@behaviour-group.com, stating which exam you passed, the date and your candidate number, where available. Complete the application for the level you wish to obtain, including signing the Code of Ethics and providing the information required for issuance.
Can I obtain a Behaviour certification without professional experience?
Yes. All of Behaviour’s own certifications offer an entry level with no experience requirements. After passing the exam and signing the Code of Ethics, complete the information required for your certification to be issued.
I attended a Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer course. What is my certification level?
The course and exam develop and assess the knowledge covered by the pathway. The certification level awarded corresponds to the requirements you meet, including experience where required.
The ISO 27001 pathway provides for the following levels: Associate Auditor or Associate Implementer, with no experience required; Auditor or Implementer, with at least one year of relevant experience; and Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer, with at least three years of relevant experience.
I already have experience. Can I apply directly for a level that requires experience?
Yes, provided you meet the requirements of the level you wish to apply for. Experience gained before training may be considered where it is relevant to the domains and activities and meets the conditions specified in the scheme. You do not need to start at entry level if you already meet the requirements for another level.
How do I demonstrate my professional experience?
The professional certification application specifies the information to submit, such as an up-to-date CV, activities carried out, periods of experience, roles held and contact details of a referee who can confirm your experience. The information must relate to the certification area and activities, not simply to your total years of employment.
Can I obtain the entry-level certification now and progress later?
Yes, where the pathway provides for this progression. Once you have gained the required experience, you can request an assessment for a higher level by contacting certification@behaviour-group.com. The change depends on confirmation that you meet the applicable requirements.
What distinguishes a Behaviour certification, and how does it add value to my career?
A Behaviour certification allows you to demonstrate your knowledge in a specialist area and, at levels requiring professional experience, also showcase the experience you have gained and applied throughout your career. It is a credential that reflects assessed knowledge, an exam pass and experience validated in accordance with the certification level.
This pathway benefits from Behaviour’s 21 years of experience in preparing professionals, with an approach that links knowledge frameworks to their practical application. Training combines concepts, exercises and organisational scenarios to develop understanding, analytical skills and the application of knowledge — both in preparation for the exam and in professional practice.
Passing the exam demonstrates that the candidate has met the knowledge requirements defined for the certification. The assessment may include knowledge questions, interpretation and resolution of practical scenarios, depending on the exam. At levels requiring experience, the activities carried out by the candidate and their relationship to the certification domains are also verified.
The result is a certification that goes beyond attending a training course: it makes visible the knowledge you have demonstrated and, at the relevant levels, the professional experience that has been validated. You can include it in your CV, on LinkedIn, in applications for new roles and in national and international projects, enhancing your professional profile.
What is the difference between a training certificate and a certification diploma?
The training certificate documents the training component, in accordance with the nature and terms of the course. The certification diploma confirms that the requirements for a professional certification have been met, including passing the exam and, at the relevant levels, validation of experience. Certification adds an assessment-based credential to your training pathway.
Who issues Behaviour certification?
Certification is issued by Behaviour, through its service Behaviour Certification Services – BCS. The schemes define the knowledge domains, assessment, requirements for each level and maintenance conditions.
The schemes are developed on the basis of the applicable requirements of ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for the certification of persons.
What will I receive, and how can I share my certification?
Once the process has been completed and approved, you will receive the Behaviour Digital Certification Diploma and Digital Certification Badge by email. You can include them in your CV, on LinkedIn, in your email signature and in other professional contexts, identifying the title, level and edition of the credential awarded, in accordance with the rules of use.
Is professional certification included in the training fee?
Check the course page and the terms of your enrolment or proposal to confirm whether training, the exam, a second attempt and certification following a pass are included. Recertification, updating and changes of level may have their own terms and fees.
When should I apply for recertification?
For certifications with no experience requirements, recertification is linked to the publication of a new edition of the body of knowledge, following the update pathway and deadlines defined for the credential.
At levels requiring experience, follow the certification timeframe and conditions and complete the process before expiry. When a new edition of the framework is published, also check the update requirements.
How do I start the recertification process?
Complete the online recertification application form, which sets out the applicable terms and fees. The request is reviewed and, if eligible, forwarded for invoicing. The formal process begins once payment has been confirmed, with instructions on how to submit the relevant documentation.
Do I need to attend training or take an exam again to recertify?
This depends on the process, the reference edition and the status of the professional certification. Under the ISO 27001 scheme, regular recertification completed within the validity period does not require further training or another exam when the edition of the body of knowledge matches the edition currently issued.
Updating to a different edition requires the Behaviour training specified for that purpose and passing a new exam. The specific requirements are confirmed according to your credential and the applicable process.
Does certification automatically transfer to a new edition of the standard or framework?
The credential identifies the edition or body of knowledge assessed. To obtain certification for the new edition, you must complete the update pathway defined for that credential. In schemes that provide for it, this update is carried out through a transition process.
My diploma already has an expiry date. How do the new conditions apply?
For a credential that has already been issued, refer to the date shown on the diploma and the conditions communicated to you. The application of the new conditions depends on the applicable transition rules. Request confirmation of your situation from certification@behaviour-group.com.
My professional certification has expired. Can I still reinstate it?
In schemes that allow reinstatement, there may be a maximum period of six months after expiry to complete the entire process. During this period, the certification remains expired.
Under the ISO 27001 scheme, reinstatement requires an exam when the body of knowledge remains current. Where it relates to an edition earlier than the one currently issued, it also requires the applicable Behaviour update training and passing the new exam.
Submitting a request, making a payment or completing one stage does not extend the deadline. Under the ISO 27001 scheme, after this limit it is no longer possible to renew or reactivate the credential, and a new initial process is required.
How can an organisation verify my certification?
The holder, or a third party with verifiable authorisation, may request verification from certification@behaviour-group.com, identifying the credential and its number or another available means of validation.
Where can I consult the Code of Ethics and the appeals or complaints procedures?
The Code of Ethics – Behaviour Code – forms part of the application documentation. To consult the scheme or the appeals and complaints procedures, contact the certification team or use the official contact details, identifying the certification and the case concerned.
Do these rules also apply to certifications from other bodies?
This page sets out the pathway for Behaviour’s own certifications. For programmes associated with certifications from other bodies, the requirements and procedures of the issuing body identified on the course page apply.
