ISO 9001 Transition

The ISO 9001 Transition (2015 → 2026) course clarifies the changes introduced by the sixth edition of ISO 9001 and their impact on the context, leadership, processes, risks, opportunities, planning of changes, documented information, performance evaluation, auditing and certification of a Quality Management System (QMS).

The training supports a structured, proportionate transition that can be applied in an organisational context, helping participants preserve what remains appropriate, identify what needs to be updated and prepare sufficient evidence to demonstrate implementation of the new edition.

Course updated for ISO 9001:2026.

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL — practical update and transition applied to the organisational context.

Why this course exists

To support the transition from ISO 9001:2015 to ISO 9001:2026 through a methodical, informed and proportionate approach, without requiring the organisation to unnecessarily reimplement its Quality Management System.

The new edition preserves the core architecture of ISO 9001, the process approach and the PDCA cycle, but introduces new requirements, clarifications and changes that affect interpretation, responsibilities, processes, documented information, evidence and QMS auditing.

This course helps professionals and organisations distinguish between:

  • what remains applicable and effective;
  • what constitutes a terminological or explanatory change;
  • what requires a documentation update;
  • what requires an operational change;
  • what now needs to be demonstrated through objective evidence.

The training combines a structured review of the 2015 edition and Amendment 1:2024, interpretation of the 2026 edition, mapping between editions and a practical, step-by-step approach to assessing gaps, prioritising actions and preparing for the transition.

What this course enables you to do

Introduction

The ISO 9001 Transition course is a 2-day course based on ISO 9001:2026 and supported by ISO 9001:2015, ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024, ISO 9000:2026 and related references from the ISO 9000 family.

The training combines a structured reading of the standard, similar to a Foundation approach, with comparison between editions and the practical application of a transition process. The aim is not to teach participants to reimplement a QMS from scratch, but to help them preserve what remains appropriate, identify gaps and carry out only the necessary changes.

Throughout the course, participants analyse the changes and clarifications in the new edition, including key terms, organisational quality culture, ethical behaviour, the separation of risks and opportunities, strengthened planning of changes and the revised and expanded Annex A.

The implications for evidence, internal audit, management review and certification are also addressed. The exercises and case study support the application of the content without replacing the structured interpretation of the standard.

This course prepares participants to support an organisation in the transition to ISO 9001:2026 and to take the Certified ISO 9001:2026 Transition personnel certification exam.

This Training Plan and all associated documents are protected by copyright and registered as a literary work with IGAC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to questions about the scope and usefulness of the ISO 9001 Transition course (2015 → 2026).

Does transitioning to ISO 9001:2026 mean reimplementing the entire Quality Management System?

No. The transition should begin by identifying what remains appropriate and effective. In many cases, specific QMS elements will need to be updated or strengthened, without reimplementing the system from the beginning.

The course helps distinguish between terminological, interpretative, documentary, operational and evidence-related changes.

Do I need to know ISO 9001:2015 before attending?

There is no mandatory formal prerequisite, but familiarity with the 2015 edition or practical experience in quality management, implementation, auditing or management systems is recommended.

For participants with no prior knowledge, the ISO 9001 Foundation course may be more suitable preparation.

Does the course cover all the main changes in the new edition?

Yes. The programme provides structured coverage of the key terms, organisational quality culture, ethical behaviour, the separation of risks and opportunities, planning of changes, the main clarifications in clauses 4 to 10 and the revised and expanded Annex A.

The course does not reproduce the full text of the standard, but interprets the changes and their impact on the QMS.

What is the difference between ISO 9001 Foundation and ISO 9001 Transition?

ISO 9001 Foundation presents the fundamentals, structure and requirements of the standard to those seeking a general, applied understanding of ISO 9001.

ISO 9001 Transition assumes a grounding in the 2015 edition and focuses on the changes in the 2026 edition, their impact and how to carry out the transition.

Does this course replace ISO 9001 Lead Implementer?

No. The Transition course teaches participants how to update an existing QMS from the 2015 edition to the 2026 edition.

ISO 9001 Lead Implementer explores the complete methodology for establishing, implementing, operating, maintaining and improving a Quality Management System in greater depth.

Does this course replace ISO 9001 Lead Auditor?

No. The course addresses the implications of the new edition for auditing and evidence, but does not fully develop the competence needed to plan, conduct and lead audits.

For that purpose, the appropriate course is ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.

Does the course help prepare for a transition audit?

Yes. The training covers criteria, evidence, the internal audit programme, management review, the handling of findings and readiness for external audit.

The specific arrangements, deadlines and requirements for transitioning organisational certification will always be considered in accordance with the official provisions in force at the time of the training and the guidance of the organisation’s certification body.

Does passing the exam automatically update the organisation’s ISO 9001 certification?

No. The certification obtained through this course is personnel certification.

Updating the organisation’s QMS certification depends on implementing ISO 9001:2026 and completing the process with its certification body.

Can the course be used to transition a Behaviour ISO 9001 personnel certification?

Yes. For holders of eligible Behaviour ISO 9001 Lead Implementer and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certifications, the course and exam provide the transition pathway to the 2026 edition, subject to the conditions of the applicable certification scheme.

Can I attend the course without holding a Behaviour certification?

Yes. The course is open to any professional who wishes to understand the new edition, support an organisation through the transition or obtain the Certified ISO 9001:2026 Transition credential.

Is the case study the main element of the course?

No. The course is based on a structured interpretation of the standard, comparison between editions and a step-by-step transition approach.

The case study and exercises are used to apply and consolidate the content in practical situations.
